Walz Statement on July 17 VA OIG Report

Jul 17, 2017
Press Release

WASHINGTON, D.C. – Today, U.S. Representative Tim Walz (MN-01) released the following statement after the Department of Veterans Affairs (VA) Office of Inspector General (OIG) released a report titled “Healthcare Inspection – Quality of Care Concerns at Two Veterans Integrated Service Network (VISN) 23 Facilities and a Veterans Readjustment Counseling Center.” At the October 2014 request of Rep. Walz, the OIG conducted an inspection to assess quality of care concerns at the St. Cloud VA Health Care System, the Minneapolis VA Health Care System, and the St. Paul Veterans Readjustment Counseling Center:

“The care and treatment of our veterans must be the VA’s number one priority, especially when it comes to mental health care. That’s why the substantiations outlined in the OIG’s report today are so concerning. As such, I have requested a briefing from VISN 23 on the steps they have already taken and plan to take in response to the report and the recommendations identified therein. I expect VISN 23 to take swift action to ensure all veterans are receiving the best possible care in Minnesota. They deserve nothing less.”
