Walz Statement on H.R. 240

Tea Party Republicans push Majority Leadership to play politics with our national security

Washington, DC [1/14/15] – Today, Republicans put forward a bill that would yet again work to shut down the government—this time the Department of Homeland Security.  Representative Walz called for a clean bill—with no poison pill amendments—to fund the Department of Homeland Security and protect the American people. He released the following statement:

“Playing politics with our national security is despicable. Recent events in Paris and around the world remind us that, while official combat operations in Afghanistan and Iraq may have ended, we must remain vigilant against those who wish to do us harm at all times. Making political statements to prove a point to the President have no place in a bill to fund the Department of Homeland Security. I call on Speaker Boehner to stop playing politics with our national security, stop bending to the fringe elements of the Tea Party, and start putting forward a clean bill to fund the Department of Homeland Security.”
