Walz Statement on GOP Government Shutdown
WASHINGTON, D.C. – Today, U.S. Representative Tim Walz (MN-01) released the following statement on the Republican-caused government shutdown:
“When Minnesotans clock in to work each day, they join together with all their coworkers to get the job done. The American people expect the president and Congress to do the same.
“Unfortunately, Republicans in Washington refused to work with Democrats in good faith to find common ground on a long-term funding bill. As a result, they failed to keep the government open.
“As I always have, I remain ready to work across the aisle on a bipartisan, long-term funding measure that provides our military the resources and certainty it needs to plan into the future. We also need to make sure we uphold our obligations to the Children’s Health Insurance Program, Community Health Centers, rural communities, and Dreamers.
“The fact remains that Republicans control the White House, the House and the Senate, and their inability to govern makes them unable to fund the government alone. I hope President Trump and Congressional Republicans do the right thing for the American people: work with Democrats in good faith to get the government up and running again.”
