Walz Statement on Reckless Ryan Budget
Irresponsible Ryan budget would end the Medicare guarantee for seniors, decimate our ability to repair our crumbling roads and bridges, gut funding for scientific research, provide tax incentives to ship American jobs overseas, and give tax breaks to millionaires and the ultra-rich
Washington, DC [4/4/14] – Today, Representative Tim Walz (D-MN) released the following statement on the reckless and irresponsible budget released by Budget Chairman Paul Ryan earlier this week.
“This budget proposal from Chairman Ryan shows the American people the Tea Party’s vision for our nation, and it isn’t pretty. Chairman Ryan’s reckless budget is a Tea Party wish list that would end the Medicare guarantee for seniors and force them to pay more out-of-pocket for their care. It would decimate our ability to repair and rebuild our roads and bridges at home—like Highway 14 and the Winona Bridge. It would gut funding for scientific research that could hold back life-saving bio-medical research that occurs around the country and right here in southern Minnesota. And it would slow our recovery and hurt our economy by providing tax incentives to ship American jobs overseas.
“I believe we must work together to tackle the debt, but unfortunately the reckless Ryan budget is nothing more than a Tea Party messaging document, and a bad one at that. The only way we’ll ever truly tackle the debt is by taking a balanced approach. That includes working together and making smart investments in programs that work, cutting programs that don’t work, and giving our economy the tools it needs to grow and prosper. I stand ready to work with anyone who is willing to do that, but I cannot support this proposal that damages the ability for southern Minnesotans to achieve the American Dream.”
