Walz Applauds Initiative to Help Tackle Climate Change
Public-Private partnership, led by the President, includes voluntary commitments from companies like GE, Honeywell, & IBM to tackle the issue
Washington, DC [3/19/15] – Today, U.S. Representative Tim Walz (D-MN) released the following statement after President Obama announced new steps to reduce the government’s greenhouse gas emissions by 40 percent and increase its use of renewable energy by 30 percent by 2025. The White House also announced voluntary commitments from private companies such as GE, Honeywell, and IBM to take similar action.
“I applaud the President’s bold action today. Climate change is a real problem that, if not addressed, threatens the very existence of the human race. We must lead by example and take action to thwart this growing problem. I’m glad to see the President’s executive action today does just that.
“While cutting the government’s greenhouse gas emissions and increasing its use of renewables is vitally important, what’s even more encouraging is that private businesses are voluntarily following the President’s lead. This public-private partnership rejects the false choice that it is not possible to be both environmentally responsible and run a successful business. As we move forward I will continue to look for ways to fight climate change and reduce our dependence on foreign energy.”
