Walz Addresses American Legion Conference
Washington, DC [2/23/16] – Today, U.S. Rep. Tim Walz (D-MN) addressed the American Legion Washington Conference during the Commander’s Call. Below are some excerpts from his remarks:
“Care of our warriors coming back should be a national priority. People want us to get this right. Our commitment to our veterans is a statement…to everyone around the world about who we are.”
“If one veterans falls through the cracks, waits too long for care, sleeps on the street, then our job is not done.”
“When it comes to VA reform, we need to bring the best from health care systems that are succeeding and meld it with the best of the VA. We cannot fire our way to a better VA, but we can fire bad employees. We have to change the status quo.”
The American Legion was chartered by Congress in 1919. Today, membership stands at over 2.4 million in 14,000 posts worldwide. Each year, during the American Legion’s Washington Conference, veterans hear from the American Legion National Commander, Members of Congress and VA officials before traveling to Capitol Hill to meet with Members of Congress and discuss legislative priorities. Walz met with American Legion members from Minnesota this morning.
