Mankato, MN — Today, Congressman Walz announced nearly $3.8 million dollars in grant money for regional airports. Fillmore County Airport in Preston, Minnesota, Albert Lea Municipal Airport in Albert Lea, Minnesota, and Rochester International Airport in Rochester, Minnesota will all receive funding. The funds will be used to rehabilitate and continue construction on the airports’ taxiways, runways, and hangar buildings.
“I am a strong supporter of creating a 21st century transportation system that efficiently moves people and goods not only to urban communities, but to the rural communities that make Minnesota what it is. These projects are great news for Fillmore County, Albert Lea, and Rochester,” said Walz. “Regional airports in southern Minnesota are a critical economic development tool and these projects will expand jobs and future economic opportunity. This investment will fund Phase 4 of construction for Runway 16/34 in Albert Lea, construction of a hangar building at the Fillmore County Airport, and the rehabilitation of taxiways at the Rochester International Airport.”
Fillmore County will receive a grant of $195,000, Albert Lea will receive a grant of $2,165,700 and Rochester will receive $1,425,000 in funding from the US Department of Transportation.
