Rochester, MN — Today, Congressman Tim Walz hosted a press conference at the Southeast Minnesota Association of Realtors with new homeowners and realtors to encourage Minnesota residents to take advantage of a new $8,000 tax credit for first time homebuyers.
“The first time home buyer tax credit is a huge step in the right direction to get families into homes and stabilize neighborhoods,” said Walz. “I am a strong supporter of the American Reinvestment and Recovery Act and am proud that this provision is putting construction workers, realtors and loan officers back to work.”
The American Recovery and Reinvestment Act of 2009 (ARRA) includes an $8,000 tax credit for new homebuyers, but it expires on December 1. Walz wants to encourage people who are in a position to buy their first home to take advantage of this tax break.
Walz was joined by Rochester area residents who just purchased their first home because of this tax credit, and realtors who have seen an up tick in business since Congress approved this provision.
